OLP Training Sessions

Training sessions presented by Organizational Leadership Programs help professionals develop strategies and skills needed to lead and inspire others, organize and manage resources, and execute a vision for success.  Taught by faculty and professional staff from the Harry S Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri-Columbia, these highly interactive trainings will provide the knowledge and tools needed to have an immediate and significant impact on an organization.

Sessions include:

Strategic Planning  Strategic planning enables organizations to examine both the existing situation as well as the future potential to enable effective action in a changing environment.  A well designed planning process helps an organization create a road map that guides the organization in the achievement of its goals, measurement of success, and communication with stakeholders.

Conflict Management  Conflict is typically avoided and experienced as negative. This training focuses on managing conflict as a potential for learning and change. It provides participants key approaches for managing conflict, insight into styles of handling conflict and ways to enhance conflict resolution.

Building an Effective Team  Now more than ever, organizations across the public, private and nonprofit sectors are being asked to work in teams to achieve common goals. Many people in organizations talk about working in teams, but few understand how to create a successful team experience. This training suggests strategies to promote productive teamwork.

Organizational Learning  Organizational learning is a tool for detecting and correcting errors in the workplace by encouraging reflectivity and the challenging of assumptions. This training provides an overview of the key concepts of organizational learning and includes a review of common barriers to change and specific strategies for enhancing organizational knowledge.

Performance Measurement  Public and nonprofit organizations must be able to articulate their success at delivering services to the public. Many federal, state and local government agencies, as well as foundations, require reporting on outcome measures that show program effectiveness. Discover different options for measuring organizational and program effectiveness and learn how to evaluate the performance of specific programs.

Leadership and Executive Development  Excellent leadership is necessary for a resilient organizational culture. It requires effective communication, an adequate understanding of employee motivation, the courage to manage conflict and an ability to establish and share an inspiring vision for the future. Leadership also entails the navigation of the dynamics associated with succession. This training reviews the key concepts of leadership and emphasizes the skills to effectively lead work teams, employees and other stakeholders.
