History of the Missouri Legislative Academy

In 2000, the Board of Curators approved the establishment of a program to provide services in support of state government, primarily but not exclusively members of the General Assembly. The Board's action followed the recommendations of an extensive stakeholder advisory committee composed of legislators, other public officials and citizens. The program, known as the Legislative Academy, is guided by representatives of all four campuses and Extension and draws upon the expertise of faculty from throughout the University of Missouri.

The Legislative Academy provides information to legislators in the form of issue briefs and presentations, member training, training about issues, and specialized research. The Academy also supports conferences about issues of general interest to legislators.
